Licensed Professional Counselors Program (LPC)

For those who wish to be an LPC in the state of Texas, 48 hours of graduate coursework in counseling are required, which includes a master's degree or higher in counseling or a related field. For those who have a 36-hour master's degree, an additional 12 hours are required as specified by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Licensed Professional Counselors. Once these requirements are met, students are eligible to sit for the LPC exam administered by the State Board. Once the individual passes the exam, he/she is eligible for the required 3,000-hour supervised internship. This internship is not supported or sponsored by the counseling program at TCU.

Students who wish to pursue the additional 12 hours will meet with their adviser to outline which courses are still needed to meet the state requirements, as these will vary from one individual to another. Course offerings include but are not limited to:
