MALA 61303 - Vietnam in War and Revolution

This course examines the causes and consequences of war and revolution in 20th century Vietnam. Concentrating on major events such as the Vietnamese anti-colonial movement, the 1945 August Revolution, Ho Chi Minh and Vietnamese Communism, the Franco-Viet Minh War, the roots of the U.S. involvement and the Amercian War in Vietnam, students explore modern Vietnamese history from a variety of perspectives: Vietnamese, American, and French. Course requirements include assigned readings, book and film critiques, a webliographic essay, and participation in threaded discussion.
