PHYS 30123 - Observational Astronomy

Prerequisites: PHYS 20073 and 20083. Two hours lecture and two hours of lab per week. Topics covered include telescopes, astronomical measurement techniques, modern detectors and instrumentation, the effect of the Earth's atmosphere on light, including selected experiments in telescope properties and resolution, photometry, spectroscopy, geometrical and physical optics, atomic physics, and studies of astronomical survey data.
